The Story of Certified Testing Services, Inc.

1987

Certified Testing Services, Inc. was founded in 1987 by Jack Krage in Sioux City, Iowa. With a long and stretching family history in the earthwork construction industry, Jack developed great background and insight on the need for quality construction materials testing. Initially starting out as primarily a construction material testing firm, Certified Testing Services, Inc. dug deep roots in the greater Siouxland area and quickly gained client trust for its prompt and accurate testing and reporting that focused on the client’s needs.

2002

James Bertsch, P.E., with over 20 years of previous experience under his belt at the time, joined Certified Testing Services, Inc. in 2002 and helped to start the geotechnical engineering division at Certified Testing Services, Inc. Jim’s reputation and contacts throughout the Midwest region helped the geotechnical division hit the ground running, or rather, drilling! With the addition of geotechnical capabilities, Certified Testing Services, Inc. was given the ability to see projects fully through, from the initial planning stages to completing the last closeout items.

2007

Seeing a greater need on the east side of our service area, in 2007, Certified Testing Services, Inc. made an expansion to the east by opening a branch office in Storm Lake, Iowa. Gary Jackson, a well-known professional from the area, was hired as division manager to lead the office and oversee its rapid growth. The addition of the Storm Lake office expanded Certified Testing Services, Inc.’s serviceable territory, which now includes Northwest Iowa, Northeast Nebraska, Southeast South Dakota, Southwest Minnesota, and beyond!

2021

In the early part of 2021, Jack transferred ownership of Certified Testing Services, Inc. to long-time employees and engineers Matt Dailey, P.E., and Jed McInerney, P.E. Matt, and Jed’s focus and mission are to continue Certified Testing Services, Inc.’s original notoriety for prompt and accurate testing and to have a vision for future company growth and technological advancement.

Certified Testing Services, Inc. is a proven leader in geotechnical engineering and construction materials testing services throughout the Midwest region. We offer an ever-expanding range of geotechnical engineering and construction materials testing services that focus on the client and their satisfaction.
